Things to see and do in Pattaya

Once a sleepy fishing town, Pattaya first boomed during the Vietnam War as an official R&R spot.  Now it’s Thailand biggest seaside resort with 13,000 hotel rooms, whose main attractions are its golf courses, its wild nightlife, its family theme parks and its proximity to Bangkok.

Things to see and do in Pattaya:

1) Tee off.
If you are a fanatic golfer or one who doesn’t like to play the same course twice then Pattaya, which has more nearby top-flight golf courses than any other Thai beach resort, is the place for you.
2) Get foamed at the Hard Rock Café.
Once everyone is suitably inebriated, a thick blanket of foam is pumped onto the dance-floor, under whose cover everyone slips and slides around. Although this is about as attractive to older visitors as a spell in a dentist’s chair, younger tourists love it.
3) Check in at the Cabbages and Condoms Resort.
Part of a nationwide chain of resorts that encourage safe sex, the resorts are the brain-child of a Thai cabinet minister who wants to make condoms as numerous as cabbages in a market. There aren’t actually that many cabbages in the average Thai market, so maybe the name ‘Morning Glory and Condoms’ would have been a better choice for the resort: it has a nicer ring about it and, if you think about it, is also kind of appropriate.
4) Eat.
As Thailand’s biggest resort the selection of restaurants is as excellent as is to be expected and includes establishments serving all the world’s major cuisines. Ignore that salty wet stuff next to the beach (it’s a bit murky anyway) and concentrate on expanding your waist-line at the maximum possible rate.
5) Check out the Alcazar transsexual cabaret.
You’ll be amazed at the beauty of most of the ‘women’. If in doubt as to someone’s gender, check out the way their arms hang – the arms of people who have at any stage been male bend slightly inwards below the elbow, whereas

Family Travel: Vacation in Pattaya

Varied scenery, distinct architecture, cuisine that is second to none – it is hardly surprising that the Tourism Authority of Thailand report that more than 13 million tourists visited Thailand in 2005. The beauty of the landscapes, the friendly people and the large sweep of Pattaya beach all become ingredients for a delightful holiday. The beaches are pristine, the sea clear and blue and delightfully warm.

Over the past years the type of tourists visiting Pattaya has changed. Many Russian tourists and eastern Europeans are part of the landscape of visitors now. Pattaya is not only a destination for single men from around the world anymore. Russian couples and families are a large part of the tourism scene.

Pattaya has been known for over four decades for its vibrant and wild nightlife and there is no doubt that Pattaya will always make most of its revenue from the nightlife entertainment areas.

Pattaya’s Nightlife and adult entertainment centers are found mostly in Walking Street and between Pattaya Beach Road to second Road. Many bars can be found on third road as well. There are other ‘pockets’ of nightlife and adult entertainment in some areas of Naklua and Jomtien but by far not as widespread and raunchy.

Jomtien offers a great destination for families and the further east on Jomtien Beach the quieter the beach is and there are hardly any bars. There are wonderful hotels and resorts which are very family friendly and offer everything you can ask for. Water sports like jet skis, windsurfing, parasailing and any water sport you can imagine is available here.

Pattaya has a famous Tiger Zoo, a crocodile farm, the sanctuary of truth, mini Siam, Ripley’s Believe or not and the Pattaya water park just to mention a few things to do in and around Pattaya.

Pattaya’s convenient location from the International Bangkok Airport makes Pattaya a great vacation destination. Only about 1 1/2 hours by taxi or bus.

Pattaya offers a culinary feast for everyone and every taste. International Restaurants mixed with local Thai food stalls and restaurants offer just about any kind of food you can imagine.

Transportation is available at any time of the day or night. A baht bus (mini bus) from Jomtien to Pattaya costs 10 Baht per person. A car can be rented starting from 500 Baht a day. A scooter can be rented starting at 150 Baht a day.

The unrests in Bangkok kept many tourists from visiting Thailand this year ‘2008′. As unfortunate as it is for many businesses it is a great time to visit because there are a lot less tourists this year. Some newspapers report a 20-30 % drop in tourism and rising.

Unfortunate for businesses but it sure is nice because Pattaya will not be crowded this high season.

It’s a perfect time to visit Pattaya, Thailand.
