Located on Vipavadee-Rangsit Road, about 24 km north of Bangkok. This is the former international airport; it closed the same day as the opening of Suvarnabhumi Airport on September 28, 2006. It reopened in 2007 to support domestic flights. This area is quite a ways from downtown and since you will not find here well-known tourist attractions like those in Sukhumvit, Siam, and Silom, most of those who look for hotels in this area will be motivated by business or economy only. To travel from Don Muang to downtown, you cannot avoid the crowded traffic. The best way is taking a taxi straight along the express way to Jatujak Station, then taking the sky train or subway to downtown. The outbound route is easier: go to Impact Arena Muangthong Thani in 15 minutes and to Ayutthaya in 40 minutes.

<img height=”99″ alt=”Suvarnabhumi Airport” width=”150″ align=”right” src=”/Image/article_pic/0394_suvarnabhumi.jpg” />Located on Bangna-Trad Road, Samutprakarn Province, about 25 km east of Bangkok. From here you can travel to Pattaya in 40 minutes. Around the airport are located such interesting sites as The Ancient City, the biggest outdoor museum in the world, and Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm. However, there are not an abundance of tourist sites here, like there are downtown. This place is the connecting route from the airport to locations in Bangkok, Pattaya, and nearby cities. Accommodation around the airport is limited to a very few places on Bangna and Srinakarin Road. Because of the crowded traffic in Bangkok and lack of subway connection, transportation is not a straightforward matter. Staying in a downtown location like Sukhumvit, Silom, Siam or near the sky train or subway will be the better choice for most tourists.

How to travel from the airport – Bangkok – to nearby places?

The airport has arranged many kinds of vehicles to serve tourists. For limousine, taxi, or bus, you can contact the service counter outside the terminal building. For a bus heading to downtown choose either #551: Airport – Victory Monument (Express Way) or #552: Airport – On-nuch Station. If you want to travel from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Muang Airport you can take bus #554 that passes along the front road of the airport and ends at Rangsit Express Way. Or you can use the airport transfer service provided by ModernThailand.com that will take you right from the airport to your hotel and several locations in Bangkok, Pattaya, Rayong and so on. Our transportation is a private transfer along with a tour guide who will make sure you reach your destination. In the future, the transportation from airport to downtown will be more convenient with the planned Airport Link System that will connect with the sky train (Phaya Thai Station) and subway (Petchaburi Station) . The Airport Link System is expected to open next year.

Nearby Hotels Avana Bangkok Hotel, Dusit Princess Srinakarin
These days boat travel along Chaophraya River is very popular. Besides the beautiful scenery and traditional Thai life style along the river, you will journey through the history of the region. It is no surprise that many tour agencies always include boat travel in their program. Along with many restaurants, the banks of Chaophraya River boast luxury 5 star hotels such as The Oriental, The Peninsula, or Shangri-la, as well as 3 star hotels that can respond to the needs of tourists who prefer a peaceful location, far from the downtown bustle. The scenery along the river at night is so beautiful, not to say romantic. Sites such as Wat Phrakaew (The Temple of Emerald Buddha), Wat Po, Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn) can be reached by ferry boat. And if you want to pop back into town for shopping or business at Silom or Siam, you can take the sky train at Taksin Station.

Saphan Taksin Station

is the only station that connects with the boat route along Chaophraya River at Sathorn Central Pier. It also has a tourist information service.
Called “Siam” for short, this downtown square is the hub for fashion, the world of shopping, trendy entertainment, and international food. It is no surprise that Siam is known as the best of the best. This is the hot spot for fashion in Thailand. The center of Thai & International foods from all over the world. The shopping district with the most public transportation. And the most retail shops, from MBK and Bonanza Mall to Siam Center. No wonder this is the most popular shopping center in all of Thailand: it can respond to the shopper’s need for any selection. If you are after original brand name products, you can go to Siam Center, Siam Discovery, or Siam Paragon. If you want a cheaper product, you can find it at MBK. But if you are looking for economy price products like in the Sunday Market, you’ll do well in the retail shops in Siam Square. For entertainment this location can offer you anything from modern cinema, bowling and karaoke, to a variety of restaurants with menus from all over the world. You’ll also find outdoor events at venues between Siam Center and Siam Discovery. Hop easily from Siam Square to another shopping center (Central World Plaza, Gaysorn Plaza, The Emporium) or to the business center with rapid and convenient transportation by sky train.

Along this road you will find various lanes (or Soi) packed with shopping zones, delicious foods, and night entertainment. It is a heaven for tourists. From Nana (Sukhumvit soi 3-4) to Asoke (Sukhumvit soi 21), you will find many shops offering jewelry, leather, souvenirs, costumes, tailors, clothes, car rental, etc. but the most attractive for tourists is Nana Plaza (soi 4) and Soi Cowboy (between soi 21-23). Sukhumvit Road has many foreign residences and accommodation for tourists. Hotels and serviced apartments line the road. Leading or economy 3-5 star hotels provide the best choice for tourists and businessmen who want to stay comfortably within easy walking distance of the sky train. The main stations of the Sukhumvit line sky train are Phloen Chit, Nana, Asok, Thong Lo, Phra Khanong, and On-Nut. There is only one subway station, Asok, which is a hub for both subway and sky train transit.

Bangkok is the center for a wide range of tourism: culture, boat travel, shopping, food, entertainment by day & by night. Bangkok is an enchanting colorful city that attracts many tourists. Each year many travelers from all over the world head to Bangkok for business and travel, especially in November through April which is the high season in Thailand. All accommodations tend to be fully booked during that period. For your convenience, you should plan ahead and make your reservations for a cheap hotel in Bangkok at least a few months in advance.

There are many accommodation options in Bangkok. If you are looking for a big, high quality and affordable hotel, you would do well to locate yourself in the business center, which offers great shopping and entertainment. The sky train (BTS) and subway (MRT) provides rapid and easy transit. You will find many excellent downtown hotel choices in the area around Sukhumvit, Silom, and Siam Square.

For a more peaceful, less central situation, you can admire the beautiful scenery along both sides of Chaophraya River.
