TAT SUPPORTS MEKONG ART AND CULTURE PROJECT
A Two Year Art Collaboration Across Southeast Asia August 2006 – August 2008
The Mekong Art and Culture Project is a two-year collaboration of leading art institutes across Southeast Asia including Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.
Designed to expand and promote the exchange of contemporary art and culture within the Mekong region, the project aims to “encourage the contemporary art and culture movement as well as develop valuable learning-community-based experiences within the region”.
The project has been sponsored by The Rockefeller Foundation Southeast Asia Regional Office, the principal sponsor, since August 2006.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is proud to be one of the official sponsors of The Mekong Art and Culture Project. TAT has long recognised the importance of the Greater Mekong Subregion and the potential for collaboration between art institutes and artists within the region. Following the official launch, TAT expressed confidence that The Mekong Art and Culture Project will provide yet another attractive reason for Thais and overseas visitors to travel around Thailand. This is reflected in TAT’s new destination marketing campaign theme – Thailand Unforgettable: Why settle for ‘memorable’ when you could have ‘unforgettable’.
The two-year art collaboration incorporates six activities and spans four countries and eight art institutions across the Mekong region. The participating art institutes are:
